Imagine a full day of exploring ancient underground and spectacular viewpoints. For visitors looking for natural beauty, the South Cappadocia and Green tour provides many terrific sites worth photographing. Accompanied by an expert local guide, visitors will embark on scenic walks through towering rock formations and enjoy sweeping views from the comfort of their vehicle. When paired with the North/Red tour, visitors can take in all of the region’s most impressive sights.
Our first destination is the Meskendir Valley, where groups will embark on a short trek through its magnificent landscape. Situated near Ortahisar, the valley stretches 440 meters and contains the famous Meskendir Church. Visitors are free to explore its interior, which is beautifully adorned with geometric red embellishments, and take in the large cross engraving on the chapel ceiling.
No visit to Cappadocia would be complete without a visit to the Rose Valley, with its beautiful rock formations and hidden churches carved from rock. The isolated valley is located behind Urgup. Countless tracks connect small villages and towns through vineyards and gardens, stretching like a spider web. You may even see villagers working in the area, offering grapes, apples or apricots.
It has beautiful rock formations with some great hidden rock carved churches. The most interesting part of this area is the countless tracks connecting the small villages and towns through vineyards and gardens like a spider net. The Rose Valley is an isolated valley behind Urgup.
We will then explore Cavusin Village, one of the oldest villages in the region, known for its cave houses that stretch like labyrinth of ruins, chiselled into the rock face. The village is also home to the Church of John the Baptist, the biggest cave church in all of Cappadocia, which dates back to the fifth century.
Of the 36 underground cities built by the Christians to escape persecution, the one we visit is the widest and most famous. No tour of Cappadocia would be complete without a visit here. It is divided into eight different levels, four of which visitors can explore, including a fascinating network of wineries, kitchens and living areas.
On the outskirts of Goreme, we will stop and take in the views down to Pigeon Valley, named for the ancient pigeon houses carved into the cliff faces over centuries. Long ago, farmers throughout the region used pigeon manure as a rich source of fertilizer for their crops.
Our final stop is in the troglodyte town of Uchisar, situated in the heart of Cappadocia. Uchisar Castle is named after the enormous rock standing in the center of town that once served as its castle. It is the highest peak in the area, offering unbelievable views across Cappadocia and Erciyes Mountain.
